I got my first pair of glasses at the tender age of 5, and as soon as I was green-lighted for contacts at age 11, I never looked back. Barring shades on a sunny day, I do my best to stay away from glasses…so I’m not sure how I feel about the announcement of Project Glass, Google’s latest innovation of social-media-savvy eyewear.  The April 7th installment of the Wall Street Journal Sentiment Tracker looked at the response from Facebook and Twitter users, and while 77% of the conversation reflected feelings of excitement and anticipation, I have to say I sided more with the 9%who were skeptical, and even more with the 12% who think it’s just too much. My immediate reaction was that the glasses look straight out of the set of Minority Report, iRobot or even 1995’s Strange Days and with this movie I date myself – has anyone else seen it? Then again, maybe the glasses are the next big fashion statement; after all, check out Captain Insight’s look!

So, let’s take a look at some of the verbatim from social media talkers who just can’t get behind Project Glass yet – I’m pretty sure that’s the camp I’m in for the time being!

These Google glasses are like the most depressing thing I’ve ever seen. What ever happened to real life?

creepily over-reliant on technology, #Google Glasses make me happy to live in the country!
