I can only speak for myself, but I feel like I am still in a food coma from the past couple days. With Thanksgiving behind us and looking forward to December, the holiday of food overload and feasting is definitely upon us. Quite literally the last thing I can imagine eating – or caring about – right now, is a Twinkie (especially since I have never eaten one!)…but once again, social media has shown me that there are opinions on every topic. Back in January, we worked with Wall Street Journal to cover the response to Hostess filing for bankruptcy, and now that the company is moving forward with liquidation plans for Twinkies, Ho Hos, Wonder Bread and more of their iconic brands, Facebook and Twitter are up in arms – and the November 24th installment of the Wall Street Journal Sentiment Tracker captured their conversations.  72% of the conversations revolved around unions and the negotiations that followed the liquidation announcement, 17% expressed dismay, 5% made jokes and 6% took to social media to talk about how happy they were to see such an unhealthy brand closing down. Check out some more of the health-driven verbatim below:

I find it appalling that people are going crazy buying twinkles and other hostess stuff.  Like seriously, this is why America is obese..

Lets be serious, Hostess going bankrupt is probably a good thing.  One less food company to make Americans fat.

Like, why would anyone be sad hostess is going out of business?  It’s nasty.

So what about you – stockpiling Twinkies or applauding the liquidation? Let me know!
