I am just wrapping up an insanely busy week at SXSW 2012. Whew! What a week! Consider this my humble apology for only now getting to blogging about the past two Wall Street Journal Sentiment Tracker topics. So – without any further delay, let’s get to the Sentiment Trackers:
It’s been said before (and I’m sure it will be said again) but I am not a huge football fan – however, judging by the topics of choice for the Wall Street Journal Sentiment Tracker (Super Bowl and Tom Brady’s wife), it might be time that I finally start paying close attention. When the March 10th of the WSJ Sentiment Tracker focused on Peyton Manning, I let the social media response educate me further on this football superstar. Judging from posts on Facebook and Twitter, I should be a big fan: 34% of fans expressed love and respect for Manning and 21% were angered by the Colts’ decision to let him go. And for those of us who are not quite so sports-centric (read: me) – the March 18th installment of the WSJ Sentiment Tracker took a look at response in social media to Britannica closing the books on production after over 2 centuries in business. 25% of the chatter pulled from Twitter and Facebook over the week reflected nostalgic sentiment – and I am certainly smack dab in the middle of that category. Growing up, I was never allowed to watch TV, so I spent much of my free weekend time with my nose in a book – not the coolest thing ever, but I guess I can make an exception to fess up in Britannica’s final hours.
